Last fall I brought you some realistic end of year goals. I meant it to be a funny blog post but as I was writing it ended up being so much more than that. My heart broke open and actual feelings poured out and suddenly it wasn’t so funny anymore. So as we begin a new year and we are making all sorts of promises, I want you to come here for rest. Read this post knowing that I am not adding to your list, but hoping to hone your list down and remind you that you are in fact human and don’t need to set super human goals (or resolutions).
Some of these are from my actual goal list that I wrote up last year and some of these are being added this year. I am enjoying creating little printable versions of some of my blog posts, so at the bottom you will find a shareable version of this post. My hope for you this year, is that you take a deep breath and let things begin anew.
Goal #1: One day of rest a month
I have tried to make it one rest day a week, but life has a way of disrupting that, so my goal this year is one FULL day of rest. Where we sleep in (as much as you can), and we eat well (even if it means ordering out) and we sit. For those of us with kids, it means play, but relaxed.
Goal #2: Move My Body 3x a Week
A lot of you reading this grew up in the diet culture generation. For years, exercise was a form of punishment that I would inflict on myself (more on that trauma later), but over the last few years, I’ve begun to look at it differently. I live with chronic pain, so each week is different and the movement is different. The goal is to just get up and move, however you feel comfortable.
Goal #3: Try New Foods
For some of you this will be really easy, and for those of you who are picky eaters, this will be a challenge. I had so much fun last year trying new recipes and new foods. Some of them I liked and some of them I don’t, but I will be adding this to my goals list every year.
Goal #4: Do Something You Enjoy Once a Month
Originally I made this a really specific goal, but last year did a number on me and I and I am going to be generic about this one. Once a month, do something that is just for you. Read a book, take a bath (for fun), take yourself to breakfast (one of my Instagram mom friends introduced me to this idea), build a puzzle or make a craft. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, but something that is for you.
Goal #5: Save Some Money
Gosh this has been a goal of mine for a long time. Some years we start the year with a good savings and other years it’s been drained because emergencies happen. I won’t put a number on this because each person and family are different, but this is a great goal for the year even if you can only save $5 a week, it will become a habit and hopefully be a beneficial goal in the long run.
Five goals. That’s what I’m presenting you with. I know there were a lot more on the “end of year” list, but I wanted something more concise for the new year. Something that is actually attainable. However, I always have too many ideas in my head so below you will have some goals that didn’t make this list, but could be added if you want to! I hope that this year treats you well and that you are able to reach all of your goals, but if you can’t, it’s okay if you just survive to see another year.
