This is one of my favorite series here on the blog! If you go under the posts tab you can search “taste of” and find the companions to this one. Winter is my very favorite season and I love all the food that comes with it. The comfort foods and warm foods and savory, heavy foods. Over the last two years I have explored more and more recipes and added to our ever growing list of family menu ideas.

So without any more babble, here are some very yummy winter eats!
Chicken Noodle Soup: this is one of my very favorite things to keep on hand. I buy these take out containers and freeze them. They are great to pull out whenever you need them.
Brat Potato Casserole: I made this for my family recently and it is now one of our favorites. Absolutely delicious.
Corn Chowder: I found this recipe originally in a children’s cookbook, but there are so many variations that you can use. I like to add some sort of sausage to mine. Typically conecuh because that is readily available down here.
Ziti Lasagna: I am drooling just thinking about eating this. We do not add any veggies or anything extra to ours but you can add what you want. This recipe is the closest to the one that my husband makes.
Chicken and Dumplings: This is a recipe that I haven’t had in a very long time, but it is my goal to learn how to make it. My grandma is the one who made it for me last over a decade ago.
Meatball Subs: a classic, easy dinner. You literally cannot go wrong. I truly don’t think you need a recipe for this one, so I’m not going to add one.
Garlic Butter Pasta with Italian Sausage: I made this a few weeks ago and it was amazing. Everyone loved it. I cannot wait to make it again.
Cheesy Chicken Broccoli & Rice: I took me years to fall in love with broccoli, but now I’m a big fan and looking for all sorts of ways to incorporate it into our dinners (always with cheese).
Shepherd’s Pie: We love shepherd’s pie. My Uncle makes the best one and we got a really good recipe from him. The key? Before you lay the potatoes on top, put a layer of sliced cheese down. It’s SO good.
Sheet Pan Garlic Pork Chops and Potatoes: one of the easiest dinners ever and clean up is equally easy. We eat this fairly often, so I’m certain you will love it too.
Things that I love to have on hand in the winter months:
- 9 x 13 pans
- Crock pots (my favorite brand for these)
- Crock pot liners
- Sheet Pans
My challenge for you is to cook more. To find love in the kitchen and start making food from scratch (yes even those of you who think you can’t). It changed a lot for me when I gave it a shot. When I started printing random recipes and buying ingredients I found my love for cooking again, so maybe you can too.
