Fall and Winter Indoor Activities

This is my favorite time of year to be outside, but I know that for a lot of people this is the time to cozy up inside and wait for warmer weather. This post is for all of you. Instead of letting your seasonal depression set in, let’s make this season one to remember.

Here are ten indoor activities to do this fall and winter!

  1. Indoor Camping Night: This can be done a few different ways. If you have the space to put a tent in your house that would be so fun, but most of us don’t, so you’ll have to get creative and build a really cool blanket fort for the night. Camp out by yourself, with a friend/partner or as a whole family. There are no rules here except that you don’t have to go outside.
  2. Trampoline Park – These have grown in popularity and you can find them in most towns or surrounding towns. A quick google search will tell you where the closest one is!
  3. Movie Marathon – Sit down and make a list of movies that you either haven’t seen or just want to watch together and then actually do it. Pick our your favorite snacks and drinks and make a day of it. You don’t have to wait for a rainy day to do this. I have really enjoyed going through and watching new (to me) movies this year with my husband. Pro tip: If you have decision fatigue, Netflix has a feature where it will pick for you!
  4. Afternoon of Crafting: This can be as intricate or simple as you want. I’m going to link a few of my favorite crafts for this time of year. Pearler Beads || Crochet Kit || Candle Making Kit || Pumpkin Carving ||
  5. Adult Beverage Making: This is something that I have yet to try, but really want to dabble in. You do not have to add alcohol to these drinks if you are someone who lives a sober life or wants the kids to participate. My daughter loves to mix juices together for fun which is where I got this idea from. So to include my kids I will get a few different juice favors/ types and let them choose what to mix and test them out. As for adult beverages there are kits you can buy or you can just look up some recipes if you want to do it on your own.
  6. Baking/Cooking: this is really generic, but I have some fall/winter recipe blog posts that I will link. You can use this day to prep for future meals or to just spend some quality time tougher. If you are alone, throw on some music or an audiobook and get cooking. Perfectly Pumpkin Post || Cozy Soup || Dessert || Side Dishes (check the blog)
  7. $10 Toy Run: Something that I love doing with my kids is bringing them to the store and letting them pick out a toy (within a budget). You can choose the budget but $10 is my favorite. It makes for a really fun day/time. You have them pick it out and then go home and play with it.
  8. Host a family or friend game day/night: this is the perfect time to pull out all the board games that are collecting dust in the closet. Make a day of it if you have time, or make some dinner and play games around the table.
  9. Summer Picnic – I know for some of you winter is hard. This isn’t a perfect solution, but you could have a lot of fun with this. Break out the beach chairs, throw on some swim suits (turn up the heat in the house) and have a summer themed picnic INSIDE during the cold months. You can watch summer movies or read summer themed books. The point is to bring some joy to a season that you may not enjoy.
  10. Visit a Museum or Aquarium: Some of my favorite memories were made at our local aquarium. I know that not everyone is lucky enough to live right next to one, but there are plenty of museums and other indoor historical places to visit if you do a little research (even more if you are willing to drive a little). They usually are not too costly and typically support a really good cause.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Escapes Rooms
  • Brewery
  • Chucky Cheese (for the kids)
  • Movie Theater
  • Local Library

I hope that you have a wonderful cooler season and find things that bring you joy. It just takes a little imagination to make a dreary season (for some) a little brighter. For those of you that enjoy this upcoming season, I am so excited for us to have a few months of cooler weather and seasons of change.
