occasionally funny, always a mess

Random Fact Round Up: Spring Edition

pring is typically when I have the most writers block because I just don’t enjoy the season. I hate the pollen and the weather and the fact that it’s not fall or winter. So I always have a hard time coming up with things to write about in the springtime. Which brings me to this random post of random things for you to read when you’re bored.

These were found online and as always, I tried to fact check the best I could, but I’m human and if I’ve made a mistake, please feel free to let me know in the comments so I can fix it!

Spring Random Facts:

  1. Children grow faster in the Spring (so weird)
  2. Arizona and Hawaii do not follow daylight savings time
  3. Baby birds learn to sing in the spring
  4. Typically the earliest flower to bloom is a tulip (there are a few others too, but this one is for sure accurate).
  5. It’s still being disputed whether “spring fever” is psychological or physical.
  6. Early spring is when most couples break up
  7. In the North Pole, spring brings the start of 6 months of daylight, but in the South Pole, spring brings the start of 6 months of darkness.
  8. The date of Easter changes every year but must be between March 22nd and April 25th, AND it has to be the Sunday after the full moon (such a weird fact).
  9. In the Southern Hemisphere (places like Australia) spring occurs from August to November!
  10. Surprisingly, April is not the month with the most rainfall, it’s just the month where it rains more frequently.
  11. The greatest amount of snow that fell in a 24 hour period actually occurred in the springtime. In April of 1921, 75.8″ of snow fell over a 24 hour period.
  12. Babies born in Spring are more likely to get sick than babies born at other points in the year.
  13. Late spring (to summer) is the most popular time to get married.
  14. Bees make their reappearance when Spring begins (another reason to hate the season… just saying).
  15. For the Japanese, spring begins when the cherry blossoms bloom.
  16. There are quite a few holidays that occur during Spring. They include Passover, Easter, April Fool’s Day, Earth Day, Arbor Day, Mother’s Day, Cinco De Mayo, Father’s Day, and Holi (which is celebrated in India).
  17. Tornados are most common in the springtime (which is really refreshing to hear since I now live where there are tornados 😅)
  18. According to the internet, New Year’s Day used to begin on April 1st, but was changed to January 1st in the 16th century and anyone who continued to believe it was April 1st was called an “April Fool”. Which is where we supposedly got “April Fools Day”.
  19. Spring cleaning can actually help your health because you remove a lot of the dust particles that build up during the winter when everything is shut tight and stuffy.
  20. The first full moon in March is also known as the “worm moon” because that is typically the time when worms begin to resurface.

Spring is my least favorite season, but it really is the season of new life. So many things come alive again in the Spring. I also have to admit that it’s nice to be able to spend more time outside again, especially with kids. That said, I will always love fall and winter the most. Do you have a favorite season? (sorry if I just totally bashed your favorite season).

Stay tuned for my next post that will be full of spring activities to do with the kids!
