Our Little Bookworm Third Birthday Party

Yet again I threw a party with a theme that was hard to find inspiration for, but it was such a fitting theme for my little book lover. This theme could be used for any age (seriously, it would be fun for adults too), but we used it for my daughter’s third birthday. I hope that this inspires you to think outside the box with birthday parties and not leaving you feeling stuck with the traditional store bought party themes (which are also cool and probably cheaper).

A little disclaimer: ** This one was a little more low key with decor than I normally like to do because I was 31 weeks pregnant and really tired trying to throw this party. **

What: Third birthday party (will work for boy or girl)
When: Any time of year
Where: I would suggest doing this indoor or somewhere with cover, since there will be books out on the table(s)
Theme: Our Little Bookworm (the idea came from the book “You’re My Little Bookworm”
Colors Used: Greens, Orange, Light blue, Dark Blue
Guest Count: 10

Food: This is the area that I focused most on this year and it was really fun to do. Each food item corresponded with one of my daughter’s favorite books (or books that I liked if I couldn’t come up with something for one of her favorites). I hosted this between lunch and dinner again, so it was mostly finger foods.

  • “If You Give a Pig a Pancake” – Self explanatory, but this one is pancakes and little syrup cups. Any flavor will do, but I of course did M&M because those are my favorite kind.
  • “Bear Can’t Wait” – This book is about a cute birthday party for bear. It goes with a series of books that we love. So for this one, we did themed cookies (worms and books).
  • “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” – Super simple… just a bowl of chocolate Teddy Grahams.
  • “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” – Meatballs and rolls. Super easy, not as cute as some of the others presentation wise, but this one was a crowd pleaser.
  • “The Bear Ate Your Sandwich” – I bought the cutest little bear sandwich cutter on Amazon and made PB&J sandwiches and Egg salad sandwiches.
  • “Llama Llama Red Pajama” – This one was tricky to find food for, but it’s my daughters absolute favorite series, so I came up with the idea to have red fruits in a platter with the book.

Beverages: Since we moved, I had to change our traditional drinks. It broke my heart, but we are going with the southern flow. You can do other things if you think of something cuter, but I did water and sweet tea (I bought it though because I cannot make southern tea).

  • Water (nothing fancy here)
  • “Madeline” Chick-fil-A Sweet Tea

Decor: I won’t even pretend that I decorated much this year. I only decorated the table and frankly, I used balloons as the big part of the decor on the table. Here is a peak at what our table looked like:

Party Favors: I had a lot of fun with the party favors and then I didn’t even take a picture of the kid ones. Below you’ll see a picture of the “adult” party favors.

  • Kid Favors: In a party bag, I added one of our themed cookies, a bubble wand and a book since it was a book themed party (hit up the amazon book sales). I gave each kid a copy of “You’re My Little Bookworm”, but you can use your kiddos favorite book.
  • Adult Favors: Themed cookies

I truly hope that you enjoy these birthday ideas, because I absolutely love writing them out. Her birthday isn’t until October and I already know the theme and what I want to serve (just have to get my husband on board). I cannot wait to share. Next year, I’ll have TWO birthday posts to share! Can’t wait to see what you guys do with this idea.
