Hey friends! I’m officially back! It’s been a wild few months as a mom of 2. For some reason I thought it was going to be easier going from 1-2 kids but it wasn’t. That said, I think I’ve got a schedule down that gives me time to write again.
So let’s jump right in! It’s March! Which means St. Patrick’s day is right around the corner. It’s your traditional day for corn-beef, cabbage and beer, but as always I love to make treats, so in this post you’ll find 5 of my favorite St. Patrick’s day treats! I find most of my inspiration on Pinterest, so as usual you’ll find the links with each treat.
- Leprechaun Snack Bags: This one is super easy and inspired by a Seeingdandy.com post!
What you’ll Need: Tall treat bags and ties || Fruit Loops (or the off brand) || Mini Marshmallows.
Directions: The most tedious part of this treat will be sorting the cereal by color. If you have kids, this is the time to get them involved. Once you sort them you will start layering everything into the bag. The first layer (at the bottom of the bag) will be marshmallows. You’ll have to play around with the amount because it will all depend on the size of your treat bags. Next you’ll add a handful of cereal in this color order: purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red. Then you’ll tie it off and you have an easy treat for the holiday.
2. . St. Patrick’s Day Marshmallow Treats: These are your traditional rice Krispy treats, but they’re made with lucky charms instead. Here is my favorite way to make them
What You’ll Need: Big glass bowl || 9×13 dish (glass in my favorite) || Lucky Charms (bonus if you can find the holiday themed ones) || 1 bag of mini marshmallows || 3 tbsp margarine
Directions: Measure out 6 cups of lucky charms in a separate bowl. Grease a glass bowl and place the marshmallows into the bowl. Add the margarine and place in the microwave for 2 minutes. While it’s in, grease your 9×13 pan. I also like to grease the spoon I’ll be mixing everything with. When the marshmallows are done, stir them up and add in the cereal. Stir everything together until all of the cereal is covered. Place it evenly in the pan and let it sit for a couple hours. Cut and enjoy!
3. St. Patrick’s Day Muddy Buddies: A holiday take on a fan favorite treat. I found this specific “recipe” on Fruegalmomeh.com.
What You’ll Need: Bowls || Cookie Sheet || Gallon Bags || Rice Chex cereal || White chocolate chips || Peanut butter || Butter || Powdered sugar || Green M&M’s || Lucky Charms (just the marshmallows).
Directions: I won’t even pretend that I’ve made these before. Just go ahead and click the link and let the experts tell you how to make it. It seems pretty simple and I KNOW it’s yummy.
4. Shamrock Pretzels: These are so cute and super easy to make. I found an example on mommysbundle.com for you so that you have a picture to go off of if you’re a visual learner!
What You’ll Need: 1 bag mini pretzels || Green candy melts || Holiday sprinkles (whatever you can find will work) || Lollipop sticks || Wax paper
Directions: Before you begin, lay out a decent amount of wax paper on a flat surface (counter or table). Melt the chocolate in a microwave safe dish (follow the directions on the package for the chocolate). Once that is melted begin dipping the pretzels. You will lay 3 out together in the shape of a shamrock. Make sure that the 3 pretzels are touching so that they adhere together with the chocolate. Place the stick in the middle and generously lay more chocolate on top of the stick to help it adhere to the “shamrock”. Let it dry for a minute or two and then add the sprinkles. Let them dry for a few hours and enjoy!
5. St. Patrick’s Day Crack: This is a play on Christmas crack (it’s so yummy). Here is a cute example that I found on sparklestosprinkles.com.
What You’ll Need: A baking sheet || 50 Saltine crackers || 2 sticks of butter || 1 cup light brown sugar || 2 cups white chocolate chips || 1/4 cup green melting chocolate || Holiday themed sprinkles.
Directions: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Take your pan and line with with aluminum foil. Spay that with some non-stick spray. Lay out the crackers so that they are all touching but not on top of each other. In a pot, melt your butter and brown sugar until they come to a boil. Once they’re at a boil, constantly stir for 2 minutes. Then pour that mixture evenly over the crackers. Place that in the oven and bake for about 7 minutes. Pull it out and evenly place the white chocolate chips over the crackers. Once they melt, spread it around to make sure everything is coated. White the white chocolate is melting, melt your green chocolate. Pour that over the white chocolate and feel free to use a knife to give it a marbling look. While it’s still wet, add your sprinkles over the whole thing. Let it dry for a few hours. Once it’s dry, use a knife to “crack” it into bite sized pieces and enjoy!
You know how much I love these kinds of posts. I’ve been saying for almost two years that I’ll start adding pictures, but if I’m being honest, I’m just going to link other peoples pictures in probably until the kids are in school and I have time to sit down and make these things all at once. For now, I hope you enjoy these ideas and make at least one with your family this month!
As always, be sure to tag me on social media if you make something from my blog. I love to see people getting creative and making memories as a family.
