This post is brought to you by writers block and boredom. I didn’t have high hopes for this post (am I allowed to admit that?), but when I started actually working on it, I had a lot of fun. So much so, that I think I’m going to make this an annual thing. I weeded through SO MANY random facts to pick the ones that I have chosen, and there are so many more that I could share (hence wanting to make this an annual thing). BTW: I did my best to double check and make sure these are legitimate facts.
So without further ado, I present to you my 2021, (useless) random fact round up!
- There’s only one letter that doesn’t appear in any of the United States’ names (it’s Q).
- There are human feces on the moon (ew).
- The Giant Pacific Octopus can lay up to 200,000 eggs at a time.
- The tiny pocket on jeans was designed to hold a pocket watch.
- A high school student designed the current American flag for a class assignment.
- Avocados were named after reproductive organs (google it, you won’t be disappointed).
- Only two human body parts never stop growing (the ears and nose).
- Capt’n Crunch has a real name (Horatio Magellan Crunch).
- The CIA headquarters has it’s own Starbucks (they never ask for names though).
- Montpelier, VT is the only state capital that doesn’t have a McDonalds.
- Medical errors are the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States.
- Abraham Lincoln was a licensed bartender (along with being a lawyer)
- A Pixar employee accidentally deleted part of Toy Story 2 while it was in production. Luckily another employee had a back up. The employee was not fired for his mistake.
- Apple Inc. was founded on April fools day in 1976.
- When baseball first began, umpires sat on padded rocking chairs.
- The first stroller was designed to be pulled by a goat.
- Up until the 1970’s Irish Pubs were banned from being open on St. Patrick’s Day.
- The Pope cannot be an organ donor (his body belongs to the Catholic Church).
- Rabbits are incapable of puking.

- The hottest day in (US) history was 134 degrees (F). This occurred in Death Valley, CA on July 10th, 1913.
- A 2013 UK study revealed that young children ask up to 300 questions a day (and most of those questions are poised at mothers).
- As of 2021, Medina (Saudi Arabia) is the healthiest place to live in the world.
- Pringles aren’t actually chips, they are considered crisps.
- It is illegal to sleep naked in Minnesota.
- The longest recorded marriage lasted for 90 years.
- (Apparently) Millennials fear other drives on the road, more than they fear death.
- A snail can sleep for 3 years (so lucky).
- There are no words that rhymes with the word month.
- Robert Wadlow holds the record for being the tallest man. He stood at 8′ 11.1”. He only lived to be 22 years old.
- The heaviest baby ever born was 22 pounds 8 ounces (ouch).
- On average Americans eat 3 BILLION pizzas a year (My family definitely contributes to that number).
- Lighters were invented a few years BEFORE matches were invented.
- James is the most common first name in the world.
- Tigers do not only have striped fur, they also have striped skin.
- There are 293 ways to make change for a dollar.
- All 50 states are listed on the back of a $5 bill (really, I checked).
- You can’t sneeze with your eyes open (this is so scary while driving).
- People 60 and older are 18% more likely to die on their birthday.
- The king of hearts is the only king on a playing card without a mustache.
- The metal studs on your jeans are called rivets.
- A group of hippos is called a bloat.
- Men will spend an average of 855 hours in the bathroom in their lifetime (I feel like that number should be higher).
- A “jiffy” is one trillionth of a second.
- Apple seeds contain cyanide (obviously not enough to kill you).
- The average American will spend 5.4 hours a day on their phone.
