Binge Worthy Shows for Winter

Winter is my favorite time to cuddle up and binge a good show with my husband. It takes us a lot longer to binge shows than it used to (#parenthood), but we’ve been able to get through some pretty awesome ones in our time as a couple. I wanted to share some of our favorites in case you’re looking for something new to watch.

This is my first winter in a LONG time (about 17 years actually) that I am not busy every weekend. With Covid-19 cases on the rise, you too may find yourself free to be home this winter. We are planning some awesome nights of Netflix and Chill (but like, really chill, because we’re the parents of a toddler and we’re tired). Here’s our (mostly my) top 7 binge worthy shows in no particular order because I’m indecisive (yes only 7, I told you, I’m indecisive).

How I Met Your Mother (Hulu)
I refused to watch this show for so long. I thought it was stupid. Sometimes, it really is, but it’s also so funny and heartwarming. You have to give it a few episodes. You’ll fall in love with the characters and you’ll be as invested as I was in their lives. This show gets a bonus too, because it has 9 seasons.

Hart of Dixie (Netflix)
This show is super cute and fun. It is along the lines of a dramady (comedy and a little drama). It is set in a fake town in Alabama. The premise is that a big, hot shot doctor from New York has to do a stint in a small town practice. It’s fun and cute. Even my husband likes it. The only thing that sucks, is that it only has 4 seasons.

The Mandalorian (Disney+)
If you are a Star Wars fan, this show is a MUST. There are only 2 seasons so far, but I believe that this show is going to save the Star Wars franchise (the last few movies have sucked, you won’t change my mind). There are both action filled episodes and calm episodes. You do NOT have to have a Star Wars knowledge base to watch and enjoy this show. Just watch it. There’s a cute “kid” in it too.

Heartland (Netflix)
This show has been running for 14 seasons. Most of those are on Netflix. I have watched and re-watched this show over and over. It’s mostly a drama, but it’s heartwarming and pure. If you have older kids, this would be a great one for them to watch with you as well. It could definitely be a family show. It is set on an actual ranch, and the animals on the show are real which makes the show that much better (it’s a horse show, you don’t have to like horses to watch it).

The Resident (Hulu)
This show was recommended to us. I was skeptical because it’s yet another medical drama. I view most medical dramas as Grey’s Anatomy wannabes. However, this show can hold its own. If you are a Gilmore Girls fan, this show is a must, our beloved Logan is one of the main actors. The show follows a variety of medical specialties, and includes story lines on NURSES (my favorite unsung heroes). There are 3 seasons currently on Hulu, and the current season is airing soon (or might already be airing). Give this one a shot!

Jericho (Netflix)
Though this one only has two seasons, it was amazing. This 2008 drama brings you through a “what if” scenario. This one in particular is “what if there was a nuclear attack”. It’s thrilling and adventurous and highly underrated. If you like post-apocalyptic shows, this one is for you.

Seinfeld (Hulu)
A lot of you have probably seen this, but it may have been a while ago. If you are in need of a quick comedy show, this one is great. It’s a classic. So classic, I almost didn’t include it. It’s four adults walking through their late 20’s- early 30’s and trying to live their lives in New York City. There’s love, laughter, stupidity and comfort in this show. Plus, there are 9 seasons to get through so it will kill some time.

** I just want to clarify that if Friends was on a streaming network, it would have been at the top of the list. It is my all-time favorite show to binge watch, but unless you have all of the DVD’s, its really hard to binge right now)**

There are so many other shows that I didn’t add to this list, but I’m sure you’ve already watched them. My goal here was to give you shows that you may not have seen in a while, or ones that aren’t as popular right now. If you think I’ve missed one leave it in the comments and be sure to tell us where we can stream it!
