5 Stars- It is ridiculously creepy how accurate the enneagram personality test results are. Not sure exactly who figured out how to create this test and form the results, but it’s spot on. The test takes like ten minutes which can be annoying, but it was well worth it, so I decided not to dock a star for wasted time.
**Disclaimer: I am not a psychologist, I do not know the original sources of some of this information (it’s apparently disputed), but I will link where I found the info in case you want to learn more.**
I have been hearing about Enneagram of Personality types for about 6 months (they’ve been around a lot longer but I live under a rock). I didn’t put much thought into it because I hate things that are “trending”. Apparently I am easily influenced though, because I eventually found a free version of the test and took it. The results are what sold me on this “trend” (I’ll share my results further down).
The theory is that there are 9 personality types. According to the Enneagram Institute (https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/) these are the 9 types:
- The Reformer: The rational, Idealistic type- Principled, purposeful, self-controlled, and perfectionist
- The Helper: The caring, interpersonal type- Demonstrative, generous, people-pleasing, and possessive
- The Achiever: The success-oriented, pragmatic type- Adaptive, excelling, driven and image-conscious
- The Individualist: The sensitive, withdrawn type- Expressive, dramatic, self-absorbed and temperamental
- The Investigator: The intense, cerebral type- perceptive, innovative, secretive and isolated
- The Loyalist: The committed, security-oriented type- engaging, responsible, anxious and suspicious
- The Enthusiast: The busy, fun loving type- Spontaneous, versatile, distractible and scattered
- The Challenger: The powerful, dominating type- Self-confident, decisive, willful, and confrontational
- The Peacemaker: The easygoing, self-effacing type- Receptive, reassuring, agreeable, and complacent
Before you judge some of these personality types by their blurb, read more about them. The actual descriptions give the good and the bad parts of each personality. They talk about how your particular personality type reacts to positive life happenings and to stressful situations. I read the descriptions of all the different types before I took the test to try and figure out which type I was (without wasting 10 whole minutes of my life). I was 100% wrong in my assumption though.
My husband and I had some fun with this and introduced the test to our family at our Sunday dinner and sent it around to the rest of the family via text. It was really interesting to find out the different types of personalities that meld into one family. It was also interesting to understand how we all interact with each other based on our personalities (I know that’s not new information, you know the personalities of your family, but the official results were more in depth).
It ended up being something useful for me, because I was able to better understand where people are coming from. The test provided a little insight into someone else’s head. The way that they think, the way that they feel and why they react the way they do to certain things. I know that I am being very vague, but you will understand if you decided to proceed with the “test”. I am not telling you to take this as rock solid information, just something that I stumbled upon and found to be intriguing.
In case you were wondering (or if you’ve made it this far into the post), my personality lined up 98% with a 6. The results will give you a percentage for each of the types. That way you can see what other types you line up with. I was not expecting to be a 6, but after reading all about it, the (full) description is me to a T. I am married to an 8. You can read up and have a laugh at how our personalities mix (honestly we are fine, it’s just amusing).
Now that I have rambled on, here is the link to the free version of the test that I found and used. If you so choose, you can click the link that I put earlier in the post and pay for the test from the official site.
